PED Certification: What It Is and What It Certifies
Nowadays, it is essential to stay up to date on workplace safety to protect both our employees and yours. Workplace accidents have increased in recent years, making it necessary to introduce regulations aimed at reducing the risks workers face on a daily basis.
How PED Certification Works: Preventing Workplace Accidents
PED Certification (Pressure Equipment Directive) refers to the European Directive 2014/68/EU, which regulates pressure equipment. It replaced the previous Directive 97/23/EC of 29 May 1997, introduced to harmonize the laws of EU Member States concerning pressure equipment.
This directive plays a fundamental role in ensuring safety, and all systems containing pressure equipment or components operating under pressure must comply with its applicable requirements.
All our systems are certified according to their respective risk categories. The level of risk is determined by the amount of energy stored in the pressurized components of the equipment.
Each risk category requires specific tests and assessments, which take into account operating pressure, volume or nominal diameter (DN), construction materials, and the type of fluid involved.
Every aspect is carefully examined to minimize risks and ensure worker safety.
If a system is found unsuitable for use or poses a risk to the health or safety of individuals, it cannot be placed on the market or put into operation.
Every System Is Regularly Inspected and Verified
Equipment that successfully meets the requirements established by the PED Directive is eligible for CE marking. Where required, the identification number of the Notified Body must also be displayed.
The main steps required to obtain PED certification are outlined below:
- Inspection and material verification: Materials are inspected, special materials are approved where necessary, and the quality of each machine’s components is carefully assessed.
- Assessment and qualification of manufacturing procedures: Following a thorough inspection of the equipment, the designated inspection body (currently Pascal for OMZ S.r.l., an accredited Notified Body) issues the relevant manufacturing procedure qualifications.
- Issuance of the Certificate of Conformity: Once all applicable requirements have been met, a Certificate of Conformity is issued, confirming that the equipment complies with the relevant safety standards.
Workplace safety is of paramount importance. The introduction of the PED Directive represented a significant step forward in industrial safety, providing greater protection for workers and everyone who comes into contact with industrial equipment on a daily basis.
Current legislation establishes strict safety requirements. Over the years, awareness of workplace accidents has increased significantly in Italy, making it essential to provide safer working environments for everyone.
OMZ systems have successfully undergone the required inspections and obtained PED certification, demonstrating their compliance with the applicable safety requirements and contributing to improved workplace safety standards.
OMZ has been operating in the industrial washing systems market for decades, offering a wide range of equipment and solutions designed to meet even the most demanding requirements of the industry.
